ABOUT NILA

During a trip to Bali in early 2019, Claire saw the impact of plastic on the beautiful island of Bali. From water bottles lying between the beautiful rice fields to heaps of plastic waste floating in a small entrance to the ocean. As someone who has always been very aware of the damage and suffering that plastic can cause, and moreover has always had a great love for swimwear, owning a sustainable swimwear brand was a match made in heaven. And that's how NILA was founded.

NILA ~ meaning 'deep blue'
just like our beautiful oceans

Ethical production

On the island of Bali

Our production facilities are located on the beautiful island of Bali. We work together with an ethical local supplier to strengthen the local economy, which is - especially in these times - most important. The employees are provided with exceptional working conditions. They all are paid far above minimum labour standards and negotiate their own contracts and salaries. Also, staff are provided with comprehensive health insurance for themselves and their families and are paid an extra month of salary annually. Training and personal development are important aspects as well; Business English training as well as sports classes are offered for free on a regular basis.

Every order

Supports our oceans and the entire community

Buying a NILA piece helps in cleaning up the oceans as 10 cents per bikini are donated by our producers to Bali’s ROLE Foundation. Their vision is to empower local people, businesses and governments through practical education programmes so that they can improve their environment and develop sustainable communities. Bali's ROLE Foundation runs a zero waste facility and environmental development programmes in Bali. Next to this, they create a better future for women by supporting women's access to business education and development.

Your order supports COVID-19 relief efforts in Bali as well. With few to no tourists on the island, Balinese people are struggling to make ends meet on a daily basis. With every order, we support SOS Indonesia who help feed those in dire need.
